Our approach to car seat safety

Being a parent means being prepared, especially when it comes to keeping your child safe. Graco car seats are designed to keep baby safe from the very first car ride. Here are a few of the ways we keep safety at the forefront when designing our car seats:

Engineering – Graco has developed a series of testing protocols to improve the safety of our car seats known as SafeSeatEngineeringTM. All Graco car seats are engineered and crash tested to meet or exceed US standard FMVSS.

Side Impact Testing – While there is no government standard on side impact testing, Graco Engineers have developed a protocol to simulate side-impact crash forces. All current Graco car seats and high back boosters have been tested to this standard.

2X Car Seat Standard – Graco has developed a structural test for all of our car seats that simulates a collision with twice the force of current federal standards for testing car seats. This test helps ensure our car seats are ready in the event of a high-speed or high-impact collision..

Extreme Car Interior Temperature - All current Graco car seats have been tested for structural integrity at both high and low temperatures. Because the interior temperature of your vehicle can vary significantly by season, it is important that the structural integrity of the car seat is maintained when subjected to these temperature extremes..

Testing – Graco’s crash testing facility is one of the leading in the country for child restraint systems and is helping set the standard for other facilities.

Product Usage

Engineering – To make installing your car seat as easy as possible, Graco has created step-by-step instructions and how-to videos to walk you through the installation process. Lightweight and easy to use, Graco infant car seats and in-car bases allow for convenient use of the carrier interchangeably between multiple cars. We also offer intuitive features like seat belt lock off, level indicator, and angle adjustability to help make car seat installation easier.

Car Seat Expiration – Did you know your car seat expires? Graco stamps an expiration date into the bottom of each car seat so you know when it is time to replace it. Expiration dates can range anywhere from six to ten years or more depending on the car seat – so it’s important to check your particular seat. Used or expired car seats can be dangerous, especially if you don’t know the car seat’s history. For more information on how to find the age of your car seat, click here.
